About Panhandle CU

Our Story

Panhandle Federal Credit Union was founded in October 1957 by a group of employees from the Atchison, Topeka, and Santa Fe Railroad. What began with just 131 members has grown into a thriving credit union serving more than 4,300 members — and counting. As the only full-service credit union in Sumner County, we take pride in caring for our members and their financial well-being in every way possible.
In June 2018, Panhandle Federal Credit Union merged with William Newton Memorial Hospital Credit Union in Winfield, Kansas.
In 2023, PFCU decided to expand once again and built a brand-new credit union building at 1515 E. 9th Avenue in Winfield, Kansas. The beautiful new facility was designed by Agora Architecture and constructed by Commerce Construction. We are proud to share that our PFCU building was recognized with the AGC State Building Award of Honor in 2024 — a testament to our commitment to growth, innovation, and community presence.
Our field of membership welcomes anyone who lives, works, worships, or attends school in Sumner, Cowley, Chautauqua, or Elk Counties, along with healthcare employees and their families in Butler County. We can’t wait to welcome YOU!
